Buhari’s remarks ahead of the 2023 elections: Bola Tinubu was chosen by APC delegates, not by me
Bola Tinubu, a former governor of Lagos State, was chosen as the All Progressives Congress’ (APC) presidential candidate, according to President Muhammadu Buhari, who added that the decision was made by the “will of the party members.”
According to a press release, Buhari made this statement on Saturday in Daura, Katsina State, during a Sallah tribute to the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir Usman.
He stated that we had 30 candidates when the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) instructed parties to choose their presidential candidates. The majority of them were governors and officials in the President’s cabinet.
“I advised each candidate to go out and give it their all. One governor, in his wisdom, came to visit me and inquired about my preference for the candidate to be elected at the party convention.
Knowing the abilities of each candidate, meddling was not necessary. They proceeded to elect Tinubu, and he chose Sen. Kashim Ibrahim to be his running companion in the process of selecting our candidates for the elections of 2023. I’m hoping for a calm election that turns out well.
Buhari said he had a rich experience in the 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015 presidential elections, traveling to all 774 local councils in the nation, and visiting 36 states in 2019. He thanked Nigerians for their support of the APC in 2015 and 2019.
They believe that a person who wishes to serve must be prepared to take on leadership responsibilities. I applied for this job three times, but each time I ended up in the Supreme Court. I have accumulated a lot of experience as a result. In 2003, 2007, 2011, and 2015, I went to 774 local councils. Being elected by Nigerians in 2015 makes me feel blessed. Since then, we have been attempting to overcome the difficulties with God’s assistance.
We’re not on our own. If we only knew what other African nations were going through, we would be thankful to God and defend our nation. Many more African nations are moving through. We are leaders, and we will continue to be leaders in our efforts to make things better. I ask the Almighty God to provide us more fortitude and discernment so that we may safeguard our people and keep our word for their welfare.
The Emir of Katsina and Governor Aminu Bello Masari also emphasized security issues in their statements, and the President promised that his government would do its utmost to solve them.
I have heard what the governor and emir had to say on what the public expects from the government. I won’t say anything more. The one giving me commands is myself. I’ll keep trying my hardest, “he continued.
President Buhari gave four bulls, two to army and two to air force officers; bags of rice; and some cash to those battling terrorism and banditry in the state before leaving Katsina for Abuja, according to a statement released on Saturday by Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President.
